Following the recent review of the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), the NLEX Corporation is set to collect a nominal 2% to 3% toll increase starting May 18, 2021.
“The adjustment is part of the approved periodic adjustments due in 2012 and 2014, or seven years ago. TRB and NLEX agreed to implement the increase on a staggered basis to cushion the impact of the adjustments,” NLEX said in a press statement on Saturday (May 15).
The toll adjustment will take effect at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday (May 18).
This would mean an additional ₱2 for Class 1 vehicles in the open system, VAT included; and an additional ₱6 for Class 1 vehicles for the entire NLEX journey, end to end.
For other vehicle classes, NLEX said that the minimal increase within the open system will translate to an additional ₱3 for Class 2 (buses and small commercial trucks), and ₱4 for Class 3 (large trucks/trailers).
NLEX said that the open system, where a flat rate is charged per entry, includes Quezon City, Caloocan City, Valenzuela City, Malabon City, Navotas City, Meycauayan City and Marilao, Bulacan. On the other hand, the closed system is between Bocaue, Bulacan and Mabalacat City, Pampanga.
Some of the corporation’s high impact projects and improvements are (i) RFID system enhancements, (ii) the 8-kilometer NLEX Connector that will soon bring the daily NLEX commuters to España, Manila via the Harbor Link within the year; and (iii) a major upgrade of the 5-kilometer Candaba Viaduct. – (TRB)/CF-rir
