ZAMBOANGA CITY — A suspected drug personality was killed in a shootout while another was arrested during a manhunt operation in the province of Basilan, the police reported Tuesday.

Supt. Glizen Niño Manese, Isabela City police chief, identified the slain suspect as Alpahad Hadi, a resident of Barangay Sapah Bulak, Sumisip, Basilan.

Manese identified the arrested suspect as Ismael Mukahlul Daggong, 27, a “newly-identified drug pusher,” and a resident of Aguada, Isabela City.

Manese said the shootout occurred around 2:50 p.m. Monday while the policemen were serving a warrant of arrest against Uring Aliyarin Akil in Barangay Menzi, Isabela City.

He said the shootout broke out when Hadi opened fire on the arriving policemen out to serve a warrant of arrest against Akil.

He said Akil, who managed to escape, has two standing warrants of arrest for violation of Sections 5 and 11, Article II to Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 dated December 20, 2016 and March 2, 2017 issued by the court in Isabela City.

Daggong was arrested in a follow-up operation launched after the shootout that resulted in the death of Hadi.

Recovered from the possession of Daggong were five heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride commonly known as shabu and illegal drug paraphernalia, Manese said.

The Scene of Crime Operation (SOCO) personnel also recovered from the site of the shootout a .9-mm Ingram sub-machine gun with live ammunition, four empty shells of .9-mm pistol, and a large sachet of suspected shabu. (Teofilo Garcia, Jr/PNA)
