Monsoon-affected families now only at 154,671: NDRRMC

MANILA — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Tuesday has placed the families affected by heavy rains caused by the southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm “Karding” to 154,671 or around 691,574 persons residing in 469 barangays in Region 1, 3, 4A (Calabarzon), Cordillera Administrative Region and the National Capital Region (NCR).

This is lower than 248,090 families or 1,057,767 persons residing in 713 barangays in Region 1, 3, 4A, NCR and CAR stated in NDRRMC’s Monday update.

The agency attributed the decrease to the “reconciliation of the data of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) with the affected regions separating the number of families/persons previously affected by the effects of southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Depressions ‘Inday’ and ‘Josie'”.

Both weather disturbances hit the Philippines in late July. Of the above-mentioned figure, 22,648 families/102,315 persons are being served in 253 evacuation centers while another 14,229 families/70,940 individuals are being aided outside.

A total of 41 damaged houses, with 11 totally and 39 partially, were recorded in Regions 3, 4A, and CAR.

In the case of the affected population, the decrease in damaged houses were also attributed to the DSWD reconcialition of data which separated those previously affected by “Inday” and “Josie”.

On Monday, the NDRRMC reported that 3,178 houses were reported damaged, 51 totally and 3,127 partially, in Regions 1 and 3. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
