After forming into a low pressure area on August 28, the weather system entered the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday night and intensified into a Tropical Depression on Sunday, Aug. 30, being assigned the domestic name ‘Pilandok.’

In PAGASA’s 11:00 a.m. update, Pilandok was last located 1,225 km east of Extreme Northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gustiness of up to 55 kph as it moves west-northwestward at 15 kph.

Due to its distance from the Philippine landmass, no wind signals or gale warnings were issued by PAGASA. However, the state weather bureau advised of rough seas over the following coastal waters:

  • • Up to 3.5 m: The seaboards of Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Zambales; the northern and western seaboards of Babuyan Islands; the western seaboard of Pangasinan.
  • • Up to 3.0 m: The seaboard of Lubang Islands; the western seaboard of northern La Union, Bataan, northern Occidental Mindoro, and Kalayaan Islands.

Tropical Depression Pilandok is forecast to remain on its trajectory before turning to north northwestward for the remainder of the forecast period.

PAGASA, likewise, added that the weather system is less likely to make landfall over any part of the country and will remain distant from the Philippine landmass.

However, Pilandok may continue to enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat) that continues to drench several regions in the country.
