10 PH athletes join Asian archery event in Bangladesh

MANILA — Ten athletes, led by Southeast Asian Games silver medalist Nicole Marie Tagle, are in Bangladesh to compete in the 20th Asian Archery Championships that kicks off this weekend at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.

Tagle qualified in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Argentina and is one of the country’s potential medalists in the Asian Games to be held in Indonesia next year.

The other members of the recurve team are Pia Bidaure, Kareel Hongitan, Mary Queen Ybanez, Flor Matan, Mark Javier, Luis Gabriel Moreno, and Rogelio Tremedal.

Javier competed in the 2012 London Olympics while Moreno won the mixed doubles gold medal with Chinese Li Jiaman in the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.

Seeing action in the compound event are Amaya Paz Cojuangco and Paul Marton dela Cruz.

A total of 35 countries are participating in the 20th Asian Archery Championships, which is organized by the Bangladesh Archery Federation, World Archery and World Archery Asia.

The Philippines’ best finish in the Asian Archery Championships was in 2007 when Earl Yap won the men’s individual compound and the team of Amaya Paz, Jennifer Chan and Abby Tindugan ruled the women’s team compound event. Chan also won the individual silver medal. (Jean Malanum/PNA)
