11 dead due to ‘Odette’; 166 more deaths being validated

MANILA – At least 11 people have been confirmed dead due to the onslaught of Typhoon Odette, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Wednesday (Dec. 22).

In its update, the agency said it is still validating reports of another 166 deaths due to the typhoon.

Two were confirmed injured while also undergoing validations are reports of another 273 injured and 38 missing.

Meanwhile, the agency said “Odette” has affected 3,473 barangays in Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao region, Soccsksargen, Caraga and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Affected families are placed at 368,063 which is equivalent to 1,382,252 persons. Several evacuation centers are placed at 2, 505, of which 109,601 families are now receiving aid with the remaining taking shelter with their families and friends.

The NDRRMC also reported that 239 cities and municipalities have experienced power interruption of which power supply has been restored in 34. It also reported water supply disruption in two localities.

Communication interruption was reported in 135 areas in Mimaropa, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga and the BARMM. It also reported that 107 communication lines have been restored as of this time.

Damaged houses were placed at 15,618 and these were recorded in Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao region, Soccsksargen, Caraga and the BARMM.

Of these, 13,144 are classified as partially damaged and 2,474 as totally damaged.

Agriculture damage was estimated at P323,259,892.06 and these were incurred in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao region and Caraga.

Meanwhile, infrastructure damage was placed at P227,107,000 in Mimaropa, Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, and Caraga. (PNA) – bny
