CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — A total of 12,850 jobs await applicants in the job and business fairs in Central Luzon on May 1, the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) regional office here has announced.

This is in line with the celebration of the 117th Labor Day in the region which anchors on the theme, “Pagpupugay sa Manggagawang Pilipino”.

In partnership with other concerned government agencies, the one-day Trabaho Negosyo Kabuhayan (TNK) and Business Opportunities will be held at the Kingsborough International Convention Center here.

DOLE 3 (Central Luzon) Director Zenaida Angara-Campita said in a phone interview on Thursday that this year’s mega job and business fairs aim to address the unemployment, underemployment, and jobs mismatch in the region.

Likewise, Campita said this is in support of the “Build, Build, Build” program of the Duterte administration as part of the continuing effort to provide decent and productive employment to every Filipino worker.

She said Pampanga was selected to be the center venue for this year’s Labor Day activity as it is the province with the most number of “Build, Build Build” projects, such as the Subic-Clark Railway Project (SCRP), the New Clark City Government Administrative Center, and the Clark International Airport (CIA) expansion project.

“Having a close partnership with the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA), as well as with our allied-partner agencies, we are positive that more Filipinos will land a good job this year,” she said.

Of the confirmed job vacancies solicited, Campita said some 9,253 would be available for local employment from 130 participating private companies.

The DOLE is expecting 3,597 job vacancies for overseas employment from 16 recruitment agencies, as processed by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).

She said that most job vacancies for local employment include those for production operators, customer service representatives, collection specialists, cashiers, retail sales agents, accounts specialists, service crews, utility staff, baggers and skilled sewers.

On the other hand, she said that most vacancies available for overseas employment are those for factory workers, carpenters, nurses, machine operators, welders, house workers, waiters and waitresses, masons, bakers, and housekeepers.

One of the highlights of the event is the groundbreaking ceremony of the DOLE-OFW Hospital at the Provincial Engineering Office compound in Barangay Sindalan, this city.

Also part of the activities is the visit to the New Clark City and National Government Administrative Center — a “Build, Build, Build” project site and venue of the 2019 SEA Games.

Aside from the May 1 TNK Job Fair that will be held in this city, another one will be conducted on the same date at Waltermart, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija.

A TNK Job Fair will also be held on April 30 at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium, Capitol Compound, Malolos City, Bulacan and at the Municipal Covered Court, Igulot, Bocaue, Bulacan on May 2.

Aside from the job activity, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will facilitate a skills training seminar while various local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and DOLE livelihood beneficiaries’ products will be showcased and be made available for display and for sale on the same date.

Partner agencies, such as the Social Security System, Home Development Mutual Fund, PhilHealth, Philippine Statistics Authority, Bureau of Internal Revenue and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency will also be represented to provide pre-employment services.

“The job fair is a continuing program aimed to fast-track the meeting of the job seekers and employers in one venue to minimize cost, time and effort, especially on the part of the applicant,” Campita said.

She called on job seekers to be fully prepared when they participate in the job fair.

“I invite our job seekers to participate in the job fair and ready themselves with their proper business attire, bring multiple copies of resumes, school credentials, certificates of employment, clearances, photos, passport (for overseas applicants), and other pertinent pre-employment documents needed by employers,” Campita said.

Alejandro V. Inza Cruz, head of the DOLE-3’s Technical Services and Support Division 2, said that to render efficiency in filling out the Skills Registration System (SRS) forms, applicants may pre-register at the nearest Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in their respective areas before May 1.
