158,509 families affected by incessant rains

MANILA — Severe weather conditions due to the southwest monsoon enhanced by tropical cyclones “Henry”, “Inday” and now “Josie” has so far affected 158,509 families or 728,003 individuals residing in 585 barangays in Regions 1, 3 4A (Calabarzon), 4B (Mimaropa), Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and the National Capital Region.

This was disclosed by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) in its 6 a.m. update Sunday.

Of the said figure, 2,798 families or 12, 063 persons are being aided in 99 evacuation centers while 50,945 families are being helped outside.

Ricardo Jalad, NDRRMC executive director, said a total of 30 road sections and four bridges were affected in Regions 1, 3, 6 and CAR. Also, 334 areas in Regions 1, 3, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, CAR and NCR have experienced flooding, of which 97 had already subsided.

Jalad added that a total of 156 houses were damaged, nine totally and 147 partially, in Regions 3, 6 and CAR.

Also, two deaths, one injured and one missing were reported and confirmed in Region 7, Calabarzon and CAR.

Agricultural and infrastructure damage was placed at PHP259,130,611 in Regions 1, 2, 3, 6, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and CAR.

Meanwhile, a total of PHP11,083,495.72 worth of relief assistance was provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, and local government units in affected families residing in Regions 1, 3, 6, Calabarzon, NCR and CAR. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
