MANILA — A total of 16 technical-vocational (tech-voc) trainees from Davao City and Davao del Sur will join the regional skills competition in Tibungco, Davao City on April 11-12, a Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) official said on Thursday.

TESDA 11 (Davao region) director, Lorenzo Macapili, said the 16 trainees were gold medalists in the recently-concluded provincial skills competition in Davao.

“Only gold medalists will be moving forward to the regional level,” he told the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

Earlier, TESDA said its provincial and regional offices will hold a skills competition from March to April 15. Winners will then compete for the zonal (Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao) and national competitions.

Winners in the national category will then compete in the ASEAN Skills Competition in Singapore in 2020. They can also get the chance to participate in the World Skills Competition in China in 2021.

Macapili said Davao del Sur is the biggest province in the region, and also the province with the most number of competed skills categories.

Among these skills categories are Mechatronics, Automobile Technology, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning, Electrical Installations, Mechanical Engineering CAD, Welding Technology, Cooking, and Restaurant Services, Web Design and Development, IT Software Solutions for Business, IT Network Systems Administration, Information Network Cabling and Visual Graphic Design Technology, Fashion Technology, Beauty Therapy, and Hairdressing.

Other provinces have yet to submit their report with regards to the skills competition in their areas, Macapili said.
