BAGUIO CITY — A total of 179 residents were hired on the spot in the latest job fair conducted during Baguio’s Charter Day Anniversary, Mayor Mauricio Domogan told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Monday.

Domogan said majority of the new hires were taken in by local companies, while three passed the tight screening for overseas employment.

Baguio City’s labor and employment officer Romelda Escaño said 28 local companies and 12 overseas manpower agencies joined the job fair last Sept. 29, as part of the month-long celebration of the city’s 109th year.

“The total number of registrants is 1,207. The placement rate is 17.09 percent, which is equivalent to 179 qualified individuals hired on the spot,” Escaño said, adding 99 of the successful job-seekers were female.

“Basically, the jobs fair that we had was again successful. For a job fair to be considered successful or effective, it must have over 15 percent of the applicants hired during the activity. So far, from the job fairs that the city had staged, we have been able to not only meet but beat the target,” she added.

A total of 17,232 job vacancies were offered in the latest job fair.

Domogan congratulated those hired and at the same time, encouraged those who were not fortunate enough to continue seeking employment, as jobs abound in Baguio from both government and private offices.

“The local government of Baguio will continue to tie up with various private and public companies to help our constituents seeking employment,” Domogan assured.

The job fair was organized by the city government in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment in Cordillera.

Baguio regularly conducts major job fairs, at least twice a year–on Labor Day in May and during the Baguio Charter Day Anniversary in September. (Pamela Mariz Geminiano/PNA)
