1K families evacuated in Nueva Ecija due to ‘Ompong’

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija — At least 1,067 families are in different evacuation centers as Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 2 remained hoisted over this province.

Dr. Abraham Pascua, consultant and spokesman of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), said the evacuees, coming from different flood-prone towns of Nueva Ecija, were all preemptively evacuated as part of precautionary measures due to Typhoon Ompong.

However, he did not say which evacuation center has the most number of evacuees.

“No forced evacuation has to be imposed yet,” Pascua said in an interview on Saturday.

“All major roads and bridges are passable as of press time,” he added.

Moderate rains with occasional gusty winds are being experienced in the province, the PDRRMC reported.

Rescue and heavy equipment from the Department of Public Works and Highways, provincial government of Nueva Ecija and Cabanatuan City government were pre-positioned for swift action if the need arises.

More than 40 dump trucks and heavy equipment privately owned by Nueva Ecija 3rd District Rep. Ria Vergara were sent to various local government units for pre-positioning.

No casualty or injury brought about by “Ompong” has so far been reported in Nueva Ecija.

The provincial government has 5,290 food packs on standby for relief distribution. (Marilyn Galang/PNA)
