The Department of Health (DOH) Region 7 reported that 2 residents of Cebu have tested positive for the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) UK variant.
According to the health regional office, 1 individual has already recovered while the other is still recuperating in a hospital in Manila.
The patients were identified as a 45-year-old returning overseas Filipino from Talisay City, and a 35-year-old from Liloan.
Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “SamSam” Guilas called on his constituents not to panic as the said patient from Talisay City has “not set foot in the city since he arrived in the country last month”.
On the other hand, the DOH 7 disclosed that the patient from Liloan, Cebu was “only home on August 2020 and returned to Manila on November 17 of the same year and has never travelled back to his hometown”.
“He tested positive for Sars-CoV-2 in a private molecular laboratory in Sta. Ana, Manila as a requirement for his travel for work on January 17, 2021, and the sample was forwarded to the PGC for genomic sequencing for the UK variant. The result was likewise released as positive on February 5, 2021,” the department said. – Report from John Aroa
