DAVAO CITY — Two Filipino boxers dropped their respective title bouts against South African opponents in East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa over the weekend.

Joseph “The Hunter” Ambo of Pangasinan lost to Yanga Sigqibo of South Africa via unanimous decision at the International Convention Centre in East London on Sunday (July 28).

It was Ambo’s second defeat in 12 fights while Sigqibo improved his record to 13-1-1 and retained his World Boxing Organization Inter-Continental super flyweight title.

Sigqibo captured his title against Keyvin Lara of Nicaragua on Dec. 7, 2019.

In July last year, he also defeated another Filipino fighter, Rene Dacquel, to win the vacant World Boxing Council International super flyweight title.
