2 more lanes of Napindan Bridge 2 in Taguig now open: DPWH

MANILA – Two more lanes of the Napindan Bridge II in Taguig City were opened on Wednesday, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.

DPWH-National Capital Region (NCR) Director Melvin Navarro said the two additional lanes will help reduce traffic congestion in the thoroughfare.

“The project has a big impact on motorists as they will now have a wider road,” Navarro said in an interview.

The Napindan Bridge II is a 152-lineal meter pre-stressed girder bridge that is part of the Laguna Lake Highway Project, Taguig section.

Its construction began in May 2016 with a budget of more than PHP100 million.

Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, together with Taguig City Mayor Laarni “Lani” Cayetano, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, and Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) President Vince Dizon led the opening of the two lanes on Wednesday morning.

“As we finish with the construction of the Napindan Bridge II, we will further reduce the travel time from Bicutan to Taytay and vice versa,” Villar said.

The bridge makes use of concrete bored piles for piers, slabs, railings, retaining walls and stone masonry for approaches. In addition, thermoplastic pavement marking have also been incorporated in the project.

“Before its construction, there were only two lanes available for road travel. The Laguna Lake Highway will now be enhanced by converting its two lane sections into a homogenous four-lane highway with two road lanes available for each direction,” Villar added.

It will connect the river boundaries of Taguig and Pateros and is set to further reduce traffic congestion along major roads like E. de los Santos Ave. and C5. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
