2 North Cotabato towns under state of calamity

A state of calamity has been declared in two towns in North Cotabato as a result of the 6.3 magnitude earthquake that shook Mindanao on Wednesday, October 16. Over 2 thousand homes from 36 barangays in Makilala, North Cotabato were affected by the temblor.

According to acting Municipal Administrator Sheryl Orbita, the declaration of a state of calamity will make the relief efforts easier to execute. Initial assistance in the form of food and hygiene kits was immediately released from the town’s PHP 4.3 million calamity fund. Relief from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 12 is expected to arrive any day.

M’lang, North Cotabato has reported 1 fatality due to structural damage. Validation is ongoing on the full extent of damage and the calamity fund will be released soon.
