MANILA — Passers of the 2018 Bar examinations will take their oath as new lawyers on June 13, the Supreme Court (SC) announced Tuesday.
In a statement, the SC Public Information Office said the successful Bar examinees should secure a clearance from the Office of the Bar Confidant (OBC) on or before June 10.
The oath-taking ceremony will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).
They are directed to prepare PHP6,050 (PHP3,850 for oath fees and PHP2,200 for Integrated Bar of the Philippines [IBP] dues, including building fund).
For clearance, each passer is advised to bring three valid identification cards (IDs): one for security and the two for presentation to the OBC.
Meanwhile, signing in the Roll of Attorneys starts June 14.
On Friday, Justice Mariano C. del Castillo, 2018 Bar Chairperson, announced that a total of 1,800 out of the 8,155 examinees who completed the 2018 Bar Examinations passed. They comprise 22.07 percent of the total examinees who took the exams.
Sean James B. Borja, a graduate of Ateneo de Manila University topped the 2018 Bar Examinations with the highest over-all rating of 89.31 percent.
Del Castillo named the Bar examiners as follows: lawyer Carlo L. Cruz (Political and Public International Law); lawyers Hans Leo J. Cacdac (Labor Law and Social Legislation); lawyer Ma. Ngina Teresa V. Chan-Gonzaga (Civil Law); lawyer Carlos G. Baniqued (Taxation); Dean Cesar L. Villanueva (Mercantile Law); (Retired Court of Appeals) Justice Edgardo P. Cruz (Criminal Law); lawyer Tranquil GS Salvador III (Remedial Law); and lawyer Regina P. Geraldez (Legal Ethics and Practical Exercises).
The 2018 Bar Examinations was the 117th to be held in the Philippines. The exams were held at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila and were administered by the OBC, headed by Deputy Bar Confidant, lawyer Amor Entila.
For the 2019 Bar Examinations, the Court, upon the recommendation of Associate Justice Estela M. Perlas-Bernabe, incoming 2019 Bar Chairperson, has approved the adoption of a general policy to designate two examiners per subject for the Bar examinations.
In implementing the two-examiner policy, every Bar subject shall be divided into two parts. Each examiner shall be assigned a specific scope to formulate questions. During the examinations, each Bar examinee shall be given one questionnaire containing Parts I and II and two conjoined booklets (marked Parts I and II), where answers corresponding to each part of the questionnaire shall be written.
