202 OFWs from Kuwait arrive in PH Tuesday

MANILA — Two hundred two repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Kuwait arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Tuesday.

They were onboard Etihad Airways flight EY 424, Qatar Airways flight QR 932, and Emirates Airline flight EK 332.

More than 2,000 OFWs have been repatriated by the government since February 11.

The Philippine government has been working on helping the OFWs in Kuwait to go back home, due to abuse and maltreatment.

Joanna Demafelis, a Filipina domestic worker in Kuwait, was killed and her body was found in a freezer.

Her former employers are the primary suspects and are now under the custody of authorities, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Based on autopsy reports, Demafelis was tortured, had broken ribs, internal bleeding, contusion, and trauma in pelvis and kidney area.

Meanwhile, President Rodrigo Duterte has requested two local carriers, the Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific, to help ferry the distressed OFWs from Kuwait.

The two carriers have heeded the President’s call and mounted special free flights for the OFWs in Kuwait. (PNA)
