23-year-old Chihuahua claims record for oldest dog in the world

A 23-year-old Chihuahua from Ohio, United States claimed the record for oldest living dog, the Guinness World Records announced Thursday, Jan. 19.

The Chihuahua, named “Spike,” is 23 years and 43 days old as of Dec. 7, 2022.

“Spike” stands at nine inches and weighs just 5.85 kilograms.

The record-holding dog was found by owner Rita Kimball in a parking lot of a grocery store in Camden, Ohio.

“Spike” has been Kimball’s pet for over 13 years.

The Guinness World Record for oldest living dog was previously owned by a 22-year-old Chihuahua mix named “Gino.”
