A routine reshuffle has been implemented involving 24 Bureau of Immigration (BI) supervisors and intelligence officers currently assigned at the three terminals of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

According to BI Commissioner Jaime Morente, the reorganization of top officials in NAIA terminals 1, 2 and 3, is part of his policy to “shake up the system” to prevent fraternization and corruption.

“The top officers managing the BI personnel at the airports are not exempt from this policy,” Morente said in a statement Monday.

“Apart from reshuffling our frontline officers, we also have a rotation system for heads to encourage fresh ideas on how to improve terminal management,” the BI official added.

Among those affected by the revamp were the chief of the Airport Operations Section, Port Operations Division deputy heads, Terminal Supervisor, head of the Border Control and Intelligence Unit, and members of the Special Operations and Communications Unit.

On the other hand, BI Port Operations Division chief Grifton Medina reported that the reshuffle was issued last week after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) approved their request for exemption from the ban on the transfer of government workers during the election period.

He added that the reorganization was implemented in order to “give the affected officials the chance to assume new job functions and responsibilities that will foster their career advancement and develop their capabilities as border control officers of the country.”

A total of 514 immigration officers have been reshuffled from the NAIA early this year.
