25K residents in Aurora displaced by ‘Ompong’

BALER, Aurora – Some 6,924 families or 25,601 individuals were affected by the onslaught of Typhoon Ompong in this province.

Based on the report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) headed by Acting Governor Rommel Rico T. Angara, out of the total affected people, some 4,459 families or 16,578 individuals are temporarily staying in various evacuation centers while 2,465 families or 9,023 individuals are outside evacuation camps.

“Some of them were preemptively evacuated. But, there are also (a) few who were forcibly evacuated, particularly those living in high-risk places – flood- or landslide-prone areas. The move is part of an effort to have zero casualty,” Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) head Amado Elson A. Egargue said in an interview on Saturday.

According to the report, the biggest number of displaced residents was reported in Dingalan town, with 1,670 families or 5,505 persons brought to designated evacuation centers while 71 families or 184 individuals were outside evacuation camps.

In Casiguran town, the total number of displaced residents was 1,718 families or 6,402 individuals, wherein 622 families or 2,348 individuals are now temporarily staying in evacuation centers.

In Dilasag town, 1,302 families or 4,955 persons were also affected by the strong typhoon. Of this number, 323 families or 1,310 individuals preferred to stay in designated evacuation centers.

In Dinalungan town, some 349 families or 1,220 persons are temporarily housed in evacuation centers out of the 668 affected families or 2,360 individuals.

The towns of Dinalungan, Casiguran, and Dilasag, also known as Dicadi area, are in the northern part of Aurora, which were placed on Friday under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3.

In the capital town of Baler, some 448 families or 2,058 individuals are temporarily staying in designated evacuation centers.

Meanwhile, there are 417 families or 1,521 persons housed at the designated evacuation centers in the town of Maria Aurora.

In Dipaculao, about 408 families or 1,505 persons were brought to evacuation centers, while in Dilasag town, 323 families or 1,310 persons were placed in evacuation camps.

In San Luis town, he said there are 222 families or 1,125 persons staying in evacuation centers.

Electric power has been on and off in the province since Friday night, Egargue said, noting that all roads in the area are still passable.
