3 passengers in Mactan Airport suspected with UK variant


The Department of Health (DOH) in Region 7 is monitoring three patients suspected of carrying the new variant of COVID-19.

The patients under monitoring include a 28-year-old female overseas Filipino worker (OFW) and a 54-year-old male who arrived at the Mactan Airport from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and a 35-year-old male from the United States of America (USA).

The results of the genome sequencing have yet to be released.

Meanwhile, six passengers from Central Visayas who were aboard Flight EK 332 from Dubai to Manila tested negative for COVID-19. The said flight carried the first reported UK variant case in Quezon City.

As of January 25 morning, there are 903 active cases in Cebu City out of its 11,861 total confirmed cases after 81 new cases were added. A total of 77 barangays are affected by COVID-19, three have no history of transmission, 60 have active cases, while 20 have no active cases. – Report from John Aroa/ PTV Cebu
