BATAC CITY — Students from 30 public and private high schools across Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur showcased their knowledge on health-related topics during the Inter-High School Quiz Show held at the Imelda Cultural Center here on August 7.

The quiz show was organized by Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center as one of the major events of the National Hospital Week celebration which kicked off Monday.

With the current shortage of health workers in the country, the quiz show aims to inspire young students to pursue careers in the field of health and inculcate in them the values of hard work and cooperation towards gaining knowledge and ideas.

In her inspirational talk, Dr. Euselyn Narcise, overall chairperson of the celebration’s organizing committee, urged the young students not to be discouraged in sharing their fresh ideas as these can be harnessed for the improvement of the country’s health care system.

“After this quiz show, I hope that more of you will want to become doctors or even health administrators as we all know the essential things that are lacking in our health system,” she said as she shared to the young students the struggles she faced in training to become a doctor.

The quiz show included questions on current health problems plaguing the country and the world, existing government programs, knowledge on various branches of the sciences, among others.

Declared as the champion was a team from the Currimao National High School which bested 29 other teams in the four levels — easy, average, difficult, and very difficult.

First-runner up went to the Immaculate Conception Academy while second-runner up was bagged by Eureka High School. The winners received cash prizes, medals, and certificates of recognition. (Michael Mugas/PNA)
