5.0-magnitude quake hits Surigao del Sur; aftershocks expected

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit Tandag City, Surigao del Sur Sunday noon, Feb. 19, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology (Phivolcs) reported.

The tectonic quake hit three kilometers (km) southwest of Tandag City at 12:47 p.m. It had a depth of 51 km.

Intensity III was felt in Tandag City and Butuan City in Agusan del Sur; Intensity II in Cagwait, Surigao del Sur; and Intensity I in Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.

Meanwhile, Instrumental Intensity I was logged in Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte; Surigao City, Surigao del Norte; and Tandag City.

No damages reported but aftershocks are expected.
