Over 500K expected to join INC’s charity walk on May 6

MANILA — More than 500,000 people are expected to join the Iglesia Ni Cristo’s Worldwide Walk to Fight Poverty on Sunday, May 6, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Wednesday.

Due to the large number of people joining the event, the MMDA advises motorists to take alternate routes, as parts of Roxas Boulevard in Manila will be closed starting midnight of May 5.

Both the northbound and southbound stretch of Roxas Boulevard from Buendia to Padre Burgos are closed for the event, according to MMDA Deputy Chairman Frisco San Juan Jr.

“We advise the public to avoid Roxas Boulevard and areas to be affected by the event from May 5 midnight to late afternoon the following day,” San Juan said in a press conference at the MMDA’s main office in Makati City.

Motorists are advised to take the following alternate routes:

From Radial Road 10 (R-10)/Anda Circle, left at Andres Soriano Jr., right at Gen. Luna St., Straight at Maria Orosa St., right at T.M. Kalaw, left at M.H Del Pilar St. to destination and vice versa
From A. Bonifacio Drive, left at P. Burgos, right at Maria Orosa St., right at T.M. Kalaw, left at M.H. Del Pilar St. to destination and vice versa;

From A. Bonifacio, left at P. Burgos, right at Taft Avenue to destination and vice versa;

From P. Burgos, right at Finance Road, at left at Ayala Boulevard, right at San Marcelino, left at U.N. Avenue, right at Pres. Quirino Ave., left at South Super Highway to destination;

And from P. Burgos, right at Finance Road, right at Taft Avenue, left at Pres. Quirino., right at South Super Highway to destination.

The participants will assemble at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and walk straight to the Quirino Grandstand during the event.

The charity walk will traverse parts of Diosdado Macapagal Avenue, Buendia Avenue, Taft Avenue, and Road 10.

MMDA will deploy 200 personnel composed of traffic enforcers, road emergency group, and roadside clearing group to guide motorists, help maintain peace and order, and do post-activity cleanup in the area after the charity walk. (Aerol John Pateña with reports from Madonna Actub-OJT/PNA)
