56K families affected by ‘Urduja’: NDRRMC

MANILA — Inclement weather caused by tropical depression ‘Urduja’ has affected 56,908 families in 554 barangays in Regions V, VI, VIII and CARAGA, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) announced in its Monday update.

This is equivalent to 248,790 persons, NDRRMC Executive Director Ricardo Jalad said.

As of this posting, 21, 279 families or 92,613 individuals are being served in 302 evacuation centers while 4,366 families or 20, 024 persons are being aided outside evacuation centers.

Also, Jalad also reported a total of 4,327 families were preemptively evacuated in Samar, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar.

Some 19 individuals were also reported injured in Leyte and Samar provinces even as 17 incidents of landslides, four floods and one capsizing were reported in MIMAROPA, Regions V, VI and VIII.

The NDRRMC chief also reported that 49 towns and municipalities in MIMAROPA, Regions V, VII, and VIII experienced power outages.

NDRRMC spokesperson Mina Marasigan said they have received reports from various local government units that 26 persons were killed along with 46 others missing.

The above-mentioned figures have yet to be verified as of posting time, she added. Of the 26 dead now, 18 are in Biliran, five in Leyte, one in Eastern Samar, and two in Samar.

On the other hand of the total missing persons, 30 are in Biliran, two in Leyte, 11 in Eastern Samar, two in Romblon and one in Liloan, Southern Leyte. (PNA)
