6 more airlines remit unused terminal fees to MIAA

MANILA — Six more airlines had recently remitted unrefunded terminal fees (or passenger service charge) to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), the agency shared on Monday afternoon.

Cebu Pacific (CEB) was the first carrier to do this last July 5. MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal then thanked CEB and encouraged other airlines to follow such initiative.

MIAA Media Affairs Division head Jess Martinez earlier told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that MIAA does not require airlines to remit the unrefunded terminal fees of their passengers.

Remittance would depend on the carrier’s initiative, he said.

As of July 13, MIAA has collected more than PHP259 million from Singapore Airlines (for travel period February 2015 to March 2016), Kuwait Airways (for travel period February 2015 to December 2016), KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (for travel period February 2016 to June 2017), Ethiopian Airlines (for travel period June 2015 to April 2016), Qatar Airways (for the period February 2015 to December 2015) and Cathay Pacific (for the period February to December 2015).

Martinez earlier noted that the remitted amount would not go to MIAA’s fund. Instead, this will be placed in an account and passengers can refund the unused terminal fee from MIAA any day they can during business hours.

“There is no expiration for the terminal fee. Passengers can refund that even after several years,” Martinez said.

Passengers with unused tickets during the said travel periods may refund the terminal fee at the MIAA Collection Office, provided that they bring with them the ticket with record locator and a valid ID.

Those who will send a representative to refund the terminal fee will be required an authorization letter from the passenger, the ticket showing record locator number, passenger’s original government-issued ID, as well as the representative’s ID. (Ma. Cristina Arayata/PNA)
