MANILA — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) lauded the confirmation of the ad interim appointments of 74 generals and senior officers, saying it is essential in helping the military fulfill its mandate.

“Promotions of Generals and Senior Officers in the Armed Forces signify not only the advancement of military officers in the career as soldiers, it also imply the bigger and more crucial responsibilities that they have to carry in support of the AFP’s mission of protecting the people and the state,” AFP public affairs office chief, Col. Noel Detoyato, said in a statement.

On Wednesday, the Commission on Appointments (CA) confirmed the ad interim appointments of Major Generals Allen Paredes, Nathaniel Casem, Alejandro Baclayon, and Pelagio Valenzuela at the Senate in Pasay City.

It also approved the promotion of Brigadier Generals Cirilito Sobejana, Erickson Gloria, and Pio Diñoso III to the rank of Major General.

Also confirmed were the ad interim appointments of Brigadier Generals Pablo Lorenzo, Glicerio Peralta, Ramil Bitong, Rene Diaz, and Maxima Ignacio.

The CA also approved the promotion of Colonels Adrian Sanchez Jr., William Gonzales, Edgard Arevalo, Edward Libago, and Fabian Pedregosa to the rank of Brigadier General.

The ad interim appointments of 57 Colonels, which include nine reservists, were also confirmed by the CA.

Of this number, 35 are from the Philippine Army, five from the Philippine Air Force, two from the Philippine Navy, and one from the Philippine Marines.

Five of the senior officers came from the AFP Medical Corps, four from the Dental Service, one from the Judge Advocate General Service, two from the Chaplain Service, one from the Medical Administrative Corps, and one from the Veterinary Corps.

The CA previously approved the confirmation of the ad interim appointments of 56 ranking officers from the AFP on October 3.
