8 Muntinlupa cops relieved for alleged involvement in kidnapping

MANILA — Eight members of the Anti-drug Enforcement Unit of the Muntinlupa City police have been relieved following their alleged involvement in a kidnap for ransom case.

Chief Supt.  Guillermo Eleazar, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) regional director, reported to Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Oscar Albalyalde Saturday, four of the eight suspects have been arrested, namely SPO1 Psylo Joe M. Jimenez , PO3 Romeo P. Par, PO2 Farvy O. Dela Cruz , and PO1 Jon-Jon C. Averion.

The four others who remain at large are SPO1 Edgardo D. Zervoulakos, PO3 Charlie C. Miranda, PO3 Roderick V. Salvador and SDEU chief Police Senior Insp. Mark D. Pesiga.

They were alleged to have detained a woman and her 7-year old son as a result of an anti-drug operation, and later asked the victims’ family to pay PHP400,000 in exchange for the release of the victims.

In a complaint, Abner C. Bumatay, 35, construction foreman, and a resident of #206 Buendia st., Tunasan, Muntinlupa City, said the suspects barged into his house at about 11 a.m. on July 12, 2018, claiming they were conducting an anti-illegal drug operation.

They arrested the victim, Glaiza Iglesias , 33, the live-in partner of the complainant together with their minor child of the latter, who were both held infront of the office of Drug Enforcement Unit.

After conducting the hoax operation, the suspects allegedly carted away personal properties of the victim consisting of money, jewelries, LED TV, Cellular phones and a laptop computer.

The suspects then demanded PHP400,000 in exchange for the release of Glaiza and her son.

It was at this point that Bumatay sought the help of authorities. An entrapment operation was put into place with the victim handing money to the suspects.

Operatives found the victims  being held in the gym adjacent to the office of SDEU.

The suspects failed to present necessary documents to support the lawful arrest of Glaiza Iglesias such as Spot Reports, Pre-operations/ Coordination with the Philiippine Drug Enfrocement Agency (PDEA) and Request Laboratory Examination with the Crime Laboratory.

The suspects will be charged of violating Article 267 (Kidnap for Ransom) and Article 293 (Robbery with Intimidation of Person) of the Revised Penal Code and for Violation of RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Benjamin Pulta/PNA)
