PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan — Around 808 new teachers in Palawan including three topnotchers took their oath Sunday afternoon at the Puerto Princesa City Coliseum here to handle the education of the Palaweños in the rural areas.
In Palawan, a total of 229 elementary and 579 secondary teachers passed the September 2017 Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET).
The mass oath-taking ceremony for professional teachers was facilitated by the Professional Regulation Commission-Lucena in cooperation with the provincial government of Palawan.
Paz Lucido, vice chairperson of the Professional Regulatory Board of Professional Teachers (PRBPT) led the mass oath taking.
Lucido said the new teachers will be responsible for what they call the “millennial learners,” and it is only appropriate that all of them must participate in various seminar-workshops for teachers, take their masters and doctoral degrees, and avail of other related learnings to keep up with their future students.
Provincial Information Officer Gil Acosta Jr., who represented Governor Jose Alvarez, said that the new teachers will be the provincial government’s partner in providing quality educational services to Palaweños, especially those in rural areas.
“Ang kasalukuyang administrasyon ay naniniwala na ang edukasyon ay isa sa mga susi upang maibaba ang mataas na poverty index ng lalawigan (The current administration believes that education is one of the keys to bringing down the poverty index in the province),” he said.
Lucido said, 37.77 percent was the passing ratio that they recorded in 27 testing centers in the country following the September LET.
This is equivalent to 70,824 individuals who passed the board in the country from a total number of 187,527 who took the examination, Lucido said.
The event recognized the three Palaweños, who passed as topnotchers: Maricar Daganio Dasmariñas, 4th place; Krisxan Keshia Mendoza, 7th place; and Jude Matthew Diokno Bernal, 10th place – all graduates of Palawan State University (PSU). (Celeste Anna Formoso/PNA)
