SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna – Around 8,300 residents here have become recipients of the city’s’ “Operation Bigay Lunas” (health intervention) and public school educational assistance projects in the past two weeks.
The City Information Office on Friday said Mayor Loreto Amante spearheaded the “Operation Bigay Lunas” health mission at the Pamana Hall here through the City Health Office and the Mercury Drug Foundation Inc. (MDFI).
Amante has assured indigent patients from the various barangays on free consultations, treatment and medicines as part of the government’s provision of access to medical and health services.
Besides the free medicines, the city mayor also thanked the MDFI for ensuring the poor patients access through the distribution of MDFI patient cards, prescription pads, doctor’s kits, pharmaceutical supplies – as well as the local government volunteers for helping in the project.
The city government’s medical mission has a team of two doctors, seven nurses, two midwives, 10 barangay health workers (BHWs) and the support utility personnel from the City Health Office.
During the health services program, three service vehicles and ambulances were dispatched for any emergency.
Meanwhile, the city government also benefitted around 7,175 students from public elementary schools for the free school bags containing school supplies, a priority project in partnership with the San Pablo City Local School Board.
Amante, together with Vice Mayor Angie Yang and city councillors, visited around 14 public elementary schools for the distribution of the school bags and supplies to students who were filled with joy as each of them received the school items.
“Ang educational program na ito ay isang priority project upang makatulong sa mga mag-aaral sa elementarya at magsilbing inspirasyon sa pagpasok nila sa paaralan,” Amante said, citing his initiative would encourage children to go to school and lessen the school dropout rate.
The student-beneficiaries are from the elementary schools in San Joaquin, CM Azcarate, Bagong Pook, VII-A, San Roque, San Rafael, San Crispin, Sta. Felomina, Prudencia Fule, San Juan, San Marcos, San Mateo, Sta. Maria Magdalena and Del Remedio. (Ruben E. Taningco/PNA)
