9 Cotabato villages register ‘zero’ crime rate for 1st half 2018

COTABATO CITY–Nine of city’s 37 villages have registered “zero” crime incident for the first half of 2018, police said.

In a report, the city police identified the villages of Poblacion 1, Poblacion 2, Poblacion 3, Poblacion 8, Kalanganan 1, Tamontaka 3, Tamontaka 4, Tamontaka 5, and Bagua 3 as having a clean slate in terms of any form of crime committed from January to June this year.

“This achievement could be attributed to the joint effort of the city police and local officials in keeping the city from criminal elements,” Senior Supt. Rolly Octavio, city police director, told reporters here Tuesday.

Among the villages with a high incidence of index crimes over the same period were Poblacion 5 (21); Rosary Heights 10 (12); Rosary Heights 7 (11); and Rosary Heights 13 (8).

“We are keeping a close watch on these villages,” Octavio said.

He further said that in the first half of the year, the city police office has recorded a total of 149 index crimes ranging from robbery (41); theft (36); car theft (13); physical injury (22); homicide (19); murder (13); and rape (5) across the locality.

Octavio said the city’s 149 index crimes for the period remains lower than the 169 index crimes committed during the first quarter of 2017 alone.
“The city’s crime rate is continuously on a downtrend,” he said. (Noel Punzalan/PNA)
