9,000 marijuana plants uprooted in Cebu

CEBU CITY — More than PHP2 million worth of marijuana plants were uprooted by the police Wednesday afternoon in a mountain barangay of Danao City, 47.3 km north of Cebu City.

Danao City police uprooted a total of 9,000 marijuana plants and seized some 3,000 leaves valued at PHP2.1 million from a plantation in Barangay Sibacan.

However, no one was arrested during the operation as the plantation was deserted and the vicinity was uninhabited.

Danao police are still investigating who owns the property and who is responsible for the planting of marijuana in the area.

Chief Inspector Gerard Pelare, acting chief of Danao City Police, said on Thursday that a team led by PO3 Bill Restauro patrolled the said barangay around 3 p.m. Wednesday and spotted the marijuana plantation.

The uprooted marijuana plants are now at the Danao Police Station and are set for incineration sometime this weekend. (With reports from Michelle Bugtai/PNA)
