PNP to lead Sunday unity walk for peaceful polls

LAOAG CITY — The Philippine National Police (PNP) will take the lead for the conduct of a unity walk, an interfaith rally and peace covenant signing at the Aurora Park, this city on Sunday.

“We are expecting political candidates from the provincial, city and municipal levels to attend the activity,” Senior Supt. Cesar Pasiwen, provincial director of Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office, said on Saturday.

Multi-sectoral groups, including the church, academe, Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting, government and non-government organizations and political candidates, are to take part in the series of activities to promote a peaceful, fair and honest elections.

Organizers said the assembly and registration of participants will start at 5:30 a.m. to be followed by a symbolic prayer represented by the different church ministries.

Then, a unity walk around the city will follow. After a simple program, a covenant signing will take place to be followed by the community singing of the country’s patriotic song ‘Pilipinas kong Mahal’ and the release of white pigeons, as a sign of peace, by the candidates.
