BAGUIO CITY — The relationship between the Philippines and China is getting better as more businessmen are set to invest in the country, an official of the Baguio-Benguet Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCCI) said.

Peter Ng, FCCCI president, said the relationship between the two nations is in its “best shape”, especially with the close ties that President Rodrigo R. Duterte has established with one of the world’s economic giants.

“From what I have heard from the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Manila, the President has been encouraging investors from mainland China to invest here in the Philippines especially in tourism,” he said.

Ng, a Filipino-Chinese born in the city, recalled that five years ago he was asked how he sees the relationship between the two countries.

“My answer was: I hope the relationship between our countries will be a joint venture and it happened,” he said.

“With better understanding and cooperation of Filipino-Chinese community, this will strengthen our historical friendship,” he said.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan also expressed hope that the good relationship between the Filipino-Chinese community and Baguio City and its people would be sustained and fostered, saying “they are our trusted partners in the development of our city”.

Domogan said during calamities, the Chinese community sends its immediate help and support for the victims.

“It’s not only them being a model in managing business in our city but they are also our brothers and sisters whom we can trust. Our partners in our city’s development,” he said.

“Let us continue to make our city investment friendly to different investors,” he added.
