ZAMBOANGA CITY — The local government here has sent a 264-man delegation to the Batang Pinoy-Mindanao leg that is set to open in Tagum City, Davao del Norte on Sunday.
Dr. Cecilia Atilano, city sports development officer, told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Saturday that members of the delegation departed for Tagum City in batches starting Thursday.
“The last batch planed out (of Zamboanga City) on Saturday morning,” Atilano said.
The Zamboanga delegation will see action in archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, dance sports, futsal, karatedo, pencak silat, sepak takraw, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, swimming, and volleyball.
She said the Zamboanga athletes, aged 15 years old and below, were selected from different schools.
The Zamboanga delegation, she added, hopes to excel in swimming, karatedo, wrestling, athletics, and taekwondo.
The Batang Pinoy-Mindanao leg is the qualifying event for the national competition, which is scheduled to be held either in Bohol or Ormoc.
The Batang Pinoy is a national youth sports competition of the Philippines for athletes under 15 years old. It was established through Executive Order No. 44, which was signed on December 2, 1998 by then president Joseph Estrada.
