Legazpi posts 29% hike in biz tax collection

LEGAZPI CITY — The City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) here posted a remarkable improvement in business tax collection last January, with PHP169 million, compared to the PHP130-million collection during the same period last year, marking a 29.3 percent increase.

Carlita de Guzman, CTO chief, expressed optimism that the city’s earnings from business taxes will continue to increase in the coming months.

She noted that the PHP169 million was “collected from 4,760 business establishments operating in this city while the remaining 112 establishments have pledged already to pay their taxes soon.”

The jump in revenue collection was the result of the continuous increase in the number of giant investors here who serve as the main accelerator of Legazpi’s economic growth rate, de Guzman said.

She noted that another factor that contributed to the improvement of business tax collection was the implementation of the Business One-Stop Shop (BOSS) licensing scheme by the City Business Permits and Licensing Office, which reduced the steps in processing business permit renewal.

The collected revenues by the CTO is being used for the payment of salaries of city government employees, delivery of social services and to finance the implementation of developmental programs and projects of the city administration, de Guzman said.
