LEGAZPI CITY — The Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 10 here granted on Tuesday afternoon the motion to bail filed by Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo, who was placed under the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) for alleged illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and explosives.

CIDG-Bicol chief, Senior Supt. Arnold Ardiente, confirmed in an interview that the court allowed Baldo’s temporary liberty with a PHP3-million bail.

Baldo is also accused as the mastermind in the killing of Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Rodel Batocabe and his escort, Senior Police Officer 1 Orlando Diaz in Burgos, Daraga, Albay last December 22.

The beleaguered mayor is still at the Legazpi City police office, awaiting release from CIDG custody.

Last week, Judge Maria Theresa Loquillano issued a gag order to both the CIDG and Baldo’s lawyers against discussing the merits of the case in public.

Bail is the security given for the release of a person in custody of the law, furnished by him or a bondsman, to guarantee his appearance before any court as required under the conditions specified.
