ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Army’s 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division is hosting the 12-day Mindanao Leg of the Philippine Army Marksmanship Assessment and Evaluation (PAMAE) 2019 and Marksmanship Instructor Trainers Forum (MIFT) at Camp Sang-an, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur.

The activity, which is being held in Camp Sang-an, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur, kicked off on Monday and ends on March 2.

Brig. Gen. Roberto Ancan, 1st Infantry Division commander, said the PAMAE–a shooting or marksmanship competition–and the MITF, aim to assess the skills of personnel assigned with the different combat units of the Philippine Army.

Ancan said the marksmanship event includes one match for pistol, men’s category; one match for pistol, ladies category; one match for rifle (carbine) and one match for machine gun.

Ancan, the keynote speaker of the competition, said the event is being conducted simultaneously on the three major islands of the country.

The best shooters will be selected to augment the pool of quality marksmen to compete in international competitions such as the ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet (AARM), he added.

Seeing action in the 12-day Mindanao leg competition are participants from four infantry divisions, namely the Cagayan de Oro City-based 4th Infantry (DIAMOND) Division; Maguindanao-based 6th Infantry Division; Compostela Valley-based 10th Infantry Division; and the Zamboanga del Sur-based 1st Infantry Division.

“This activity is not only about competition. As soldiers, we need to continuously enhance our warfighting skills for us to be able to perform best our mandate of protecting our people from any threat,” Ancan said.
