US Library of Congress taps PNA for 2019 poll content

MANILA — News content from state-run Philippine News Agency (PNA) on the upcoming 2019 Philippine national and local elections would soon be part of a special collection at the United States Library of the Congress.

In a letter addressed to PNA, the United States Library of Congress said it considers the country’s new materials as “important part” of the said collection.

Websites are selected for archiving by Library Recommending Officers to represent “samples of web content” that could help document an event and record information that could otherwise be lost.

In the case of the PNA, the Library of Congress will not only archive its URL www.pna.gov.ph but also public content that the agency links to on third party sites such as Facebook, YouTube, among others.

According to the Library, the collection will be made available to the public a year after its archiving has been completed.

The mid-term elections in the Philippines will be held on May 13, 2019. Last February 12, the campaign period for national posts has started to be followed by the local candidates on March 30.

In the national level, the certified list of candidates includes 63 senatorial bets and 134 party-list organizations.
