ANGELES CITY, Pampanga – The new Friendship Bridge along the Friendship Circumferential Road West here will soon be opened to motorists, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional office here.

The PHP130-million infrastructure project in Barangay Anunas, this city was completed last January 15.

DPWH Regional Director Roseller Tolentino on Thursday said the project was constructed under the national government’s “Build, Build, Build” program.

The project, he noted, included the construction of two additional lanes and road widening, as well as maintenance work such as repainting using anti-corrosion paint on metal structures and repair of cracks.

“We constructed new bridge and approach with a total net length of 618 meters, and an additional bridge with a length of 240.8 linear meters,” Tolentino said.

He added that the bridge has provision for concrete slope protection for approaches and abutments and safety devices such as concrete railings, hazard markers (chevron signs) and pavement markings.

The opening of the bridge is seen to benefit thousands of residents of Angeles City, City of San Fernando, Porac and other nearby towns, as well as motorists coming to and from the bustling Clark Freeport Zone.

The Friendship Bridge project was implemented by the Pampanga 3rd District Engineering Office headed by Engr. Tito Jesus Salvador.
