The Senate Committee on Public Services is set to conduct a congressional inquiry into the water shortage besetting parts of Metro Manila and Rizal province, as well as several farming communities in the provinces.
The hearing is scheduled on Tuesday, March 19 at the Senate Session Hall at 10 a.m.
Senator Grace Poe, panel chair, said the hearing is part of the committee’s oversight functions over the country’s utilities.
“What we are seeing now is not normal and something that our households and farmers do not deserve,” Poe said.
“Ipapatawag natin ang hearing na ito dahil ang sambayanang walang tubig, walang mainom, walang paligo ay uhaw na uhaw sa katotohahan (We called for this hearing because the public suffering from water supply woes are thirsty for the truth),” Poe added.
The hearing will gather officials of concerned agencies, heads of water concessionaires, regulators and other concerned stakeholders to discuss the crisis and come up with solutions to ease the impact of the supply shortage.
