MANILA — Tropical depression “Chedeng” has slightly slowed down and may make landfall over the southern coast of Davao Oriental or the eastern coast of Davao Occidental on Tuesday morning, the weather bureau said.

After landfall, Chedeng may weaken into a low pressure area while crossing Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported.

“Chedeng” was last eyed 285 kilometers east southeast of Davao City, heading west at 15 kph.

It has a maximum sustained winds of up to 45 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 60 kph.

PAGASA forecasts scattered, to at times widespread, moderate to heavy rains over Caraga and Davao regions, especially over Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley.

Tropical cyclone warning signal (TCWS) no. 1 was raised over Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, Davao City, Davao Occidental, southern part of Davao del Norte including Samal Island, Compostela Valley, eastern part of North Cotabato, eastern part of South Cotabato, eastern part of Sarangani and eastern section of Sultan Kudarat.

Small sea crafts are advised not to venture over the seaboards of the Visayas and Mindanao and the seaboards of areas under TCWS.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said portions of the Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Bangsamoro and Zamboanga Peninsula may likely experience scattered, to at times, widespread moderate to heavy rains on Tuesday.
