BACOLOD CITY – A total of 746 personnel of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) are expected to participate in the local absentee voting set April 29-May 1.

On Monday, Col. Romeo Baleros, police provincial director, led those who voted at their headquarters in Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. here under the supervision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec)-Negros Occidental Provincial Office.

“We give importance to the voice of our personnel during elections because it is their right (to vote),” said Baleros in a statement.

He noted that the undertaking is in line with the objective of NOCPPO to safeguard the elections.

It will also ensure that deployed personnel will be focused on their task of securing the mid-term elections, he added.

Comelec Resolution No. 10443 allows government officials and employees, including members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP), who are duly registered voters, to vote for national positions in places where they are not registered, in the course of undertaking their public functions and duties.

A total of 4,981 PNP personnel stationed in different regions nationwide have signified intention to participate in the local absentee voting.

PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde on Monday encouraged all 190,000 PNP personnel to exercise their right and perform their duty to elect the country’s leaders.

He also reminded them that police personnel are prohibited from engaging in any form of partisan political activity, and that the only political exercise they are allowed to perform is to cast their votes.
