MANILA — TEENAGE, a 13-man Filipino dance group, will represent the Philippines at the annual K-pop dance festival contest in Seoul, South Korea in September.

In an e-mail to the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Thursday, the Korean Cultural Center said TEENAGE earned the honor to represent the Philippines after beating 21 other dance troupes during the K-pop Cover Dance Festival Philippines at the Circuit Event Center in Makati City last Sunday.

TEENAGE wowed the crowd with their powerful and tear-jerking performance of Seventeen’s “Don’t Wanna Cry” and “Getting Closer.”

The group won an all-expense trip to Korea and will compete at the grand finals in Seoul, Korea in September.

They also received a K-pop experience package which includes a photo shoot with a celebrity photographer and dance lessons with a famous K-pop dance choreographer. They will have their own time on a K-pop stage and a chance to meet a K-pop star.

The K-pop Cover Dance Festival is an international dance competition hosted by the Seoul Shinmun Daily and Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines.

Director Lee Jincheol of Korean Cultural Center graced the event, noting that K-pop contests “always open a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate the talent and artistry of Filipinos.”

The K-pop Cover Dance Festival, first held in 2011, is a project designed to provide sustainable interest in Hallyu as well as K-pop around the world.
