Almost 250K farmers affected by El Niño: NDRRMC

MANILA — The El Niño phenomenon or the prolonged dry spell in the country has affected 247,610 farmers in 15 regions, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Friday.

In a report, the NDRRMC said the affected farmers are from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Regions I (Ilocos region), 2 (Cagayan Valley), 3 (Central Luzon), 4-A (Calabarzon), 4-B (Mimaropa), 5 (Bicol region), 6 (Western Visayas), 8 (Eastern Visayas), 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula), 10 (Northern MIndanao), 11 (Davao region), 12 (Soccsksargen), 13 (Caraga), and the Bangamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The NDRRMC also estimated the agricultural damage in these regions at PHP7,962,521,866.

A total of 43 local government units have also declared their areas under a state of calamity due to the El Niño.
