LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — Citing assurance from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the Cordillera Administrative Region on Monday assured a continuous power supply on May 13, election day, as well as the days after the polls.
“The coordination with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines is good; there is an assurance that there would be no maintenance scheduled one week before and after the election,” Comelec-Cordillera assistant regional director Vanessa Roncal said.
Provincial election supervisors in the region confirmed that they were assured by the different power cooperatives that there would be no power interruption, Roncal added.
In case of an unannounced power interruption on the day of the elections, the Comelec has a ready back-up plan, Roncal said.
“We made a plan B and we placed back-up batteries in the Vote Counting Machines,” she said.
She said the batteries would work for 16 hours. Elections begin at 6 a.m. until 6 p.m., or a total of 12 hours.
