Basilan cops get hi-tech radio tranceivers for Monday’s polls

ISABELA CITY, Basilan — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has distributed hi-tech radio transceivers to boost the communication capability of the security forces tasked to render election security duty in this province.

Col. Rufino Inot, provincial police director, in an interview said they have received 60 units of radio transceivers from PNP chief, General Oscar Albayalde to equip the policemen with state-of-the-art communication apparatus.

Albayalde had visited the headquarters of the Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) where he also met the police directors from this province and of the nearby provinces of Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.

Inot led on Saturday the distribution of the radio transceivers to policemen assigned in areas of Basilan province that have no cellular phone signal.

Inot said the municipalities of Ungkaya Pukan, Tipo-Tipo, and Al-Barka in Basilan are among those areas with weak signal and “dead spot”.

He said that the island municipalities of Tabuan Lasa and Hadji Muhtamad, also in Basilan, are also among the towns with weak cellular phone signal.

Basilan has two cities–Isabela and Lamitan–and 11 towns. The municipalities are Tuburan, Mohammad Ajul, Akbar, Sumisip, Maluso and Lantawan aside from the five towns with weak cellular phone signal.

Inot said the policemen tasked to render election security duty have been deployed and are already in place.

Lawyer Muamar Guyo, provincial election supervisor, said Basilan has 263,017 registered voters.
