DUMAGUETE CITY – Faulty SD cards that were used in the national and local elections have slowed down the proclamation of winners, especially at the provincial and national levels, in practically the entire province of Siquijor.
Provincial election supervisor, lawyer Lionel Marco Castillano, disclosed on Monday evening that a fifth SD card was reported to have malfunctioned.
The faulty SD cards were from Bitang in the municipality of Enrique Villanueva, comprising four clustered precincts with 715 registered voters; Helen in the municipality of Larena, with four clustered precincts and 562 registered voters;
Paliton in San Juan town with four clustered precincts and 657 registered voters; Canghunoghunog, in the municipality of Siquijor, with two clustered precincts and 254 registered voters; and Candanay, also in the municipality of Siquijor, with four clustered precincts and 754 registered voters.
Because the malfunctioned SD cards had to be brought to Cebu for replacement, the canvassing at the municipal, provincial, and national levels in these four towns have been put on hold, according to Castillano.
Only the towns of Maria and Lazi had proceeded with the canvassing and proclamation of winners but only for the local positions of mayor, vice mayor, and councilors.
Canvassing for the positions of congressional representative, governor, vice governor, board members, and senators is expected on Wednesday night as soon as the replacement SD cards arrive and the ballots cast from the affected precincts in the four towns are fed into the vote counting machines, Castillano said.
