MANILA — Charges await individuals who will be found responsible for the collision of two trains between the Anonas and Cubao stations of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) on Saturday night.

This as an investigation is currently conducted by the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) on the circumstances behind the incident.

“I want to know what really happened and tell to me directly: Is this an accident? Is this a freak accident? If so, say it and why? Was there negligence? If so, tell me so that I can run after those who committed. We will prosecute them,” said Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade in a press briefing on Monday.

LRTA Administrator Reynaldo Berroya ordered the creation of a fact-finding committee that will determine the cause of the train collision that left 30 passengers and four LRT-2 personnel injured.

The DOTr and the LRTA assured that it would shoulder the medical expenses of the persons injured and provide them assistance.

The DOTr said a train parked at an inclined position on a pocket track near Anonas Station suddenly went down and ran through the eastbound track going to Cubao which eventually collided with a moving train from Cubao with passengers on board.

The incident resulted in the suspension of LRT-2 operations on Sunday morning as the trains involved in the collision were removed from the tracks.

The railway system resumed full operations at 12:13 p.m. on the same day.
