ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Department of Education (DepEd) expects that a total of 219,683 students will enroll in local public schools for School Year 2019-2020.

Rosalio Conturno Jr., School Governance and Operations chief of DepEd’s City Division of Schools, said Thursday that of the total expected enrollees, 22,265 will enroll in kindergarten; 119,979, elementary; 66,346, junior high school; and 11,093, senior high school.

Conturno said 214,717 students enrolled in all levels in this city last year.

He assured that they are ready to accept the students, as well as ready for the opening of classes on June 3.

He advised the parents to enroll their children early to avoid the rush, noting that a number of local public schools have already started enrollment while some will start next week.

He said the available tracks for senior high school are General Academic Strand (GAS); Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM); Accountancy Business and Management (ABM); and Humanities Social Science (HUMSS).

For the Technical Vocational, tracks available are Home Economics; Information Communication Technology; Industrial Arts; Agri-Fisheries; and others.

There are 172 public elementary and 41 high schools with some 8,000 teachers in this city.

The City Division of Schools is composed of 12 districts: Labuan, Ayala, Sta. Maria, Baliwasan, Central, Vitali, Curuan, Manicahan, Mercedes, Putik, Talon-Talon, and Tetuan.
